Triple negative breast cancer

Also written as TNBC, ER-negative PR-negative HER2-negative, Triple negative

What it means

In triple negative breast cancer the tumour cells do not have oestrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, or large amounts of the HER2 protein on their surface.

Why it matters

Knowing whether breast cancer is triple negative is important in planning treatment. Your oncologist explains the options.

Ask your oncologist

"Because my cancer is triple negative, what is the treatment plan and why?"

From NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: triple-negative breast cancer. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
