Breast cancer markers
HER2 positive
Also written as HER2+, HER2 3+, c-erbB-2 positive, HER2/neu positive, Her-2 amplified
What it means
HER2 positive means the cancer cells carry a protein called HER2 on their surface. Cancer cells that make too much HER2 may grow more quickly and are more likely to spread.
Why it matters
Knowing HER2 status can help plan treatment, which may include drugs aimed at HER2. Your oncologist decides.
Ask your oncologist
"My cancer is HER2 positive. Which treatments target HER2 and are they right for me?"
From NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: her2-positive. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
