Breast cancer markers
PR (progesterone receptor) status
Also written as PR positive, PR+, PR negative, PgR, Progesterone receptor positive
What it means
The progesterone receptor (PR) is a protein found inside some cancer cells. The hormone progesterone binds to it and may cause the cells to grow. A PR positive result means the cells have this receptor.
Why it matters
PR status is read together with ER and HER2 to help your oncologist plan treatment.
Ask your oncologist
"What are my ER, PR and HER2 results together, and what do they point to?"
From NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: progesterone receptor. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
