IDH mutation
Also written as IDH1, IDH1 R132H, IDH2, IDH mutant, IDH wild type
What it means
IDH1 is a gene that makes a protein which helps break down fats for energy. Changes in it have been found in some cancers, including acute myeloid leukaemia and brain cancer. These changes may cause abnormal cells to grow and spread.
Why it matters
On a brain tumour report, IDH status helps describe the tumour type. Your oncologist explains how it affects the plan.
Ask your oncologist
"Is my tumour IDH mutant or wild type, and what does that change?"
From NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: idh1-gene. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
