KRAS G12C mutation
Also written as KRAS mutation, KRAS G12C, KRAS p.G12C, KRAS mutated
What it means
KRAS is a gene whose protein helps control cell growth. Changed forms of KRAS have been found in some cancers, including lung, colon and pancreatic cancer. G12C is one specific KRAS change. A drug exists that blocks the protein made by KRAS G12C.
Why it matters
Knowing whether a tumour has a changed KRAS gene may help plan treatment. Your oncologist decides if that drug is relevant.
Ask your oncologist
"Do I have the KRAS G12C change specifically, and does it matter for my treatment?"
From NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: lumakras and NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: KRAS gene. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
