On a biopsy report
Grade
Also written as Tumour grade, Histologic grade, Histological grade, G1, G2, G3
What it means
Grade describes how abnormal the cancer cells look under a microscope and how quickly they are likely to grow and spread. Low-grade cells look more like normal cells and tend to grow more slowly. Each cancer type has its own grading system.
Why it matters
Grade is used to help plan treatment and judge the outlook. Your oncologist reads it together with stage and other results.
Ask your oncologist
"What grade is my tumour, and how does it affect my treatment plan?"
From NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: tumor grade. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
