Invasive lobular carcinoma
Also written as ILC, Infiltrating lobular carcinoma
What it means
This is a type of invasive breast cancer that begins in the lobules (milk glands) of the breast and spreads into the normal tissue around them. It can also spread through blood and lymph to other parts of the body.
Why it matters
It names the type of breast cancer. Your oncologist reads it together with grade, receptors and stage when planning treatment.
Ask your oncologist
"Does the lobular type change which scans or tests I need?"
From NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: invasive lobular carcinoma. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
