On a biopsy report
FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology)
Also written as FNA, FNAB, Fine needle aspiration, Fine-needle aspiration biopsy
What it means
FNAC means removing fluid, cells or tissue with a thin needle so they can be looked at under a microscope.
Why it matters
It is a quick way to get cells for testing. If the result is unclear, your doctor may suggest a larger sample.
Ask your oncologist
"Is this FNAC result enough to decide treatment, or do I need a core biopsy too?"
From NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: fine-needle aspiration biopsy. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
