On a biopsy report
Core needle biopsy
Also written as Core biopsy, Trucut biopsy, Tru-cut biopsy
What it means
A core needle biopsy removes a tissue sample with a wide needle so it can be examined under a microscope.
Why it matters
A larger piece of tissue lets the pathologist look at structure and run tests such as receptor status.
Ask your oncologist
"Which tests were done on my core biopsy sample?"
From NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: core needle biopsy. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
