Benign
Also written as Non-malignant, No evidence of malignancy, Negative for malignancy
What it means
Benign means not cancer. Benign tumours may grow larger but do not spread to other parts of the body.
Why it matters
A benign result means the finding is not cancer. Your doctor will tell you whether it still needs treatment or follow-up.
Ask your oncologist
"Does this benign finding need any follow-up?"
From NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: benign. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
