Serplulimab combination delayed progression in pancreatic cancer

In a phase II trial, Forty-six people with metastatic pancreatic cancer received serplulimab, chemotherapy and radiotherapy as first treatment. At six months, 78.3% had not had their cancer progress.

“Overall, the ICSBR regimen demonstrated a promising survival benefit as first-line (the first treatment given) treatment for mPDAC.”

What this means. A mid-stage trial in pancreatic cancer. Good results at this stage usually still need a larger trial before approval.

Autoimmune CAR T cell trials face renewed safety concerns

Pauses in trials of CAR T cell therapies for autoimmune disease have renewed concerns about safety, which patients should receive treatment and what level of risk is acceptable.

What this means. Based on data or samples from people with cancer. It is not a treatment trial.

Lung cancer survival and rates of new cases have improved

U.S. data show lung cancer cases fell from 64.6 per 100,000 people in 1992 to 38.9 today. Five-year survival for people with metastatic lung cancer rose from about 2% in the 1990s to about 10% recently.

“The fact that such a statement can be made about lung cancer—a disease historically responsible for the most cancer deaths of any cancer type in the United States —indicates just how far we’ve come in our understanding of preventing and treating lung cancer, thanks to cancer research.”

Financial navigation eased money worries for people with cancer

In an eight-site study, people with cancer and moderate to severe financial strain received help navigating financial resources. Their financial strain scores improved by an average of 8.1 points after the program.

“Patient-centered interventions like FN can clearly reduce FT in diverse patient populations across clinical settings and should be considered best practice.”

Research · leukaemia

Childhood leukemia treatment strains families early and over time

A study followed 420 children with standard-risk B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia and found 56.2% of families reported a household change within about 2 months of diagnosis, rising to 81.2% by 26 months. Most family outcomes were similar with treatment given every 4 or 12 weeks.

“The COG includes more than 200 member institutions that treat about 80% of all new cases of childhood and adolescent cancer—therefore, these findings represent the experiences of most families.”

What this means. A trial in leukaemia, a blood cancer that split people into groups at random, the fairest kind of test.

Firmonertinib showed responses in advanced non-small cell lung cancer

In a phase 1b trial, people with advanced non-small cell lung cancer received firmonertinib and had durable responses, with side effects described as tolerable.

“These findings support advancing to a large, randomized trial.”

Trial tested camrelizumab combination for triple-negative breast cancer

Researchers evaluated camrelizumab with docetaxel and carboplatin before surgery for stage II, III triple-negative breast cancer.
