Anselamimab missed its main target in amyloidosis trial

In a phase III trial, anselamimab did not meet its main goal across all patients with light chain amyloidosis. Among patients with kappa involvement, it reduced the risk of death by 62%.

What this means. A large, final-stage trial in kidney cancer. This is the kind of result regulators use when deciding whether to approve a treatment.

Iberdomide triplet nearly doubles deep responses in multiple myeloma

Among 420 people with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, iberdomide with daratumumab and dexamethasone nearly doubled the rate of complete response with no detectable myeloma cells, compared with daratumumab, bortezomib and dexamethasone.

What this means. A large, final-stage trial in myeloma, a blood cancer. This is the kind of result regulators use when deciding whether to approve a treatment.

Phase III trial · acute lymphoblastic leukaemia

Ponatinib and blinatumomab improved outcomes in acute lymphoblastic leukaemia

In a trial of adults with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, ponatinib plus blinatumomab was compared with imatinib plus chemotherapy. At 24 months, 86% of patients in the first group were free of events, compared with 67% in the second.

“In this phase 3 (large late-stage) trial, a frontline chemotherapy-free targeted and immunotherapeutic approach was superior to the use of imatinib and chemotherapy.”

What this means. A large, final-stage trial in acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a blood cancer. This is the kind of result regulators use when deciding whether to approve a treatment.

Phase III trial · lung cancer

Radiation added no survival benefit in small cell lung cancer trial

In 228 people with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer, adding chest radiation to carboplatin, etoposide, and durvalumab increased adverse events but did not improve how long people lived, response rates, or time before the cancer grew.

What this means. A large, final-stage trial in lung cancer. This is the kind of result regulators use when deciding whether to approve a treatment.

Navigator support raised testing among relatives at risk of hereditary cancer

In a randomized trial of 286 relatives of people with inherited cancer risk, navigators contacted relatives and helped them complete genetic testing. More relatives got tested than with standard care.

“The study evaluated whether proactive outreach and navigation support could improve genetic testing completion among first-degree relatives at increased risk of hereditary cancer.”

What this means. A trial in cancer that split people into groups at random, the fairest kind of test.

Real-world data show racial differences in cancer immunotherapy side effects

A large analysis of real-world data found racial differences in immune-related side effects during cancer immunotherapy, unlike trial data from studies that enrolled mostly white patients.

What this means. Based on data or samples from people with cancer. It is not a treatment trial.

Cancer care partnership targets training and clinical trial access

The World Health Organization and the American Society of Clinical Oncology signed an agreement to train cancer care workers, improve access to clinical trials, and strengthen care quality worldwide.

“Together with WHO Member States as partners, we will work to strengthen the oncology workforce, support vital research, and help bring high-quality, evidence-based care to patients in diverse resource settings worldwide,” said Julie R.”
