On a scan report

PET-CT scan

Also written as PET-CT, PET CT, FDG PET-CT, PET/CT

What it means

A PET-CT combines the pictures from a PET scan and a CT scan, done at the same time on the same machine. The combined scans show more detail inside the body than either scan alone.

Why it matters

It can be used to help diagnose cancer, plan treatment, or find out how well treatment is working.

Ask your oncologist

"Why was a PET-CT chosen for me, and what did it add to my other scans?"

From NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms: PET-CT scan. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
