Stage and spread
FIGO stage
Also written as FIGO, FIGO staging, FIGO IA, FIGO IB, FIGO IIB
What it means
FIGO is the staging system doctors use for cervical cancer. It has 4 stages, numbered 1 to 4. Stage 1 means the cancer is only within the neck of the womb (cervix) and has not spread to nearby tissues or other organs.
Why it matters
The FIGO stage helps your oncologist decide treatment for cervical cancer.
Ask your oncologist
"What is my FIGO stage, and what does it mean for the treatment you suggest?"
From Cancer Research UK: Stage 1 cervical cancer. Not medical advice: your oncologist decides.
